HO, HO, HO…I hope everybody’s got their wishlists filled out for Santa, it won’t be long now. The old man’s getting suited up and double checking his naughty and nice list before he hits the sled. I’m sure most of you have put a new economy on your list, probably somewhere between a Giddy Up N Go Pony and a Wii Fit. So I thought it might be fun to think about what is on some lists and what should be, as we all choose (wisely I might add) the holiday fudge over the peanut brittle……
My beloved Braves are aggressively trying to fill their own list with starting pitching. I am very skeptical at this point that the Peavy deal is going to happen, but we seem to really be the in mix for A.J. Burnett, and if we miss him (probably to the Yanks), I’m guessing we move on to Ben Sheets….who knows. I’m not terribly worried regardless, because Tommy Hanson is already in their stocking and I’m hopeful that he signals the return of the homegrown Braves Ace.
My personal wish for the Bravos is a substantive return of the Bearded Icon. I’m hopeful, that like in Frosty’s old silk cap, a little magic was found in the scalpel of Dr. Andrews, and Smoltz can author a fitting final chapter to a Hall of Fame career.
On the home front, Bulldog Nation goes to sleep each night with visions of Stafford and Mareno dancing in their heads and between the hedges for one more year. I’m afraid it might take more than Santa on this one, but maybe not…after all Santa’s obviously a big fan….just check out that get up.
I hope for the same thing every year for our Dawgs, and this year at least I got half of it. The state line I grew up closest to was the same one that Auburn was closest to…so to me, a 2-9 season when the 2 is Auburn and Florida is a great season. So Urban you should watch yourself…while it’s true that all great men are hated, not all hated men are great…
Speaking of hated men…I guess we all know what is on Detroit’s list (at least the the Big 3’s). They heard that Santa was on Capitol Hill this year instead of at the mall. Apparently, when they got there the first time, there was some question as to whether they had been naughty or nice (not really), so they had to make amends and come back to plead their case. If only we could make these doggone cars run on ignorance and greed….man don’t we have scientists working on this? (It can’t be that hard, haven’t you guys seen the ShamWow commercials or that big board CNN had during the election…it really seems like we’re only about six weeks away from the Jetsons’ car….right?)
Personally, I’m looking for a car that runs on Boston Terrier poop…that way, following Brady around with a bag while he stares at me unflinchingly with equal parts wonder, confusion, and contempt would seem like time more constructively spent.
Speaking of Brady…I can tell you without question what he wants for Christmas:
1. He wants more new people to come by so that he can jump on them.
2. He wants to be outside and inside at the same time.
3. He wants a room full of toilet paper to eat.
4. He does not want his ears cleaned.
…….but most of all he wants CHEESE, glorious cheese…all you got.
I don’t have a good handle on what Jordan and Macy want for Christmas this year. I assume that Macy still wants control of the free world. Jordan, I think, might be content just to beat me at Monopoly. I see this happening sooner than I might like too. He’s getting very shrewd…and when his grandparents are with us at the board, a lot of shady and colluded deals go down. He’s coming to stay with us just before Christmas because he’s going to another UGA baseball camp. I’m sure he’ll get another chance to bankrupt me then.
Kim and I made a responsible pact this year to forgo gifts between us. A pact that I was going to gently sidestep with a small but sentimental purchase of Beedle the Bard. As luck would have it, this week Kim came down with a vicious cold and picked up the book for herself as a comfort gift while she recuperated on the couch. I was understandably dismayed, as my potential for thoughtfulness was so thoughtlessly ripped from me. In my disappointment, I proposed a new pact in which we cancelled Christmas altogether. Kim, as always, graciously absorbed this overreaction, and between sniffles and coughs, smiled gingerly and thanked me for the thought. It warmed the roomed, cheered my mood, and gave me a great idea. I’m just going to start telling her every year what I wanted to give her. It seems earnest and practical. I’ll keep you all posted on how it goes.
I’m not going to speculate on what Susan, Keri and Kelli have on their lists (it might be personally dangerous)…though if there’s a new version of RockBand…I’m sure Keri knows about it. But…you know how I promised posts or comments from the rest of the gang here a while back and we’ve only had about one or so….well….I’m going to see if I can get our lovely ladies to touch base on this blog….and maybe it will prime the well for future posts by your favorite dental office crew.
The holidays not only bring Santa and wishlists, but they mark the turning of the calender and a time to look back. It’s been another great year in Athens in spite of Alabama, Florida, and Tech…and in spite of tough elections, harsh words and hard times. I…we, are thankful for health and wonderful new friends and endless possibilities. Hope Springs Eternal.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those who are sick, who struggle, who are in need, who are away from home, and to the people who love those people. Our world keeps getting smaller and that should not be a bad thing. That should bring us all closer together.
Thats my final wish for you all. Health. Home. Family. Friends. Peace. And Love.
Happy Holidays Everybody.
